I've been talking to Adam Varga the COO of the site (he's a really nice guy). He's been nice enough to email me on several occasions and ask me what I think about the site. I think it's a great site!! However, I am having trouble participating in their idea because I so rarely buy albums anymore (I think the last was In Rainbows, which I did submit a review). I have a few songs from a few thousand artists.
I was wondering if you guys had any thoughts on whether our current situation (i.e. the death of the full album and the return of the single due to iTunes and Amazon mp3 single track sales) is going to render this sites business model irrelevant, or whether there will be enough full album purchases in the future to warrant a site like this.

Good point Matt. To some extent, the album's just a function of technology (what could fit on a record, CD, tape, etc), so it makes sense it'd change with the Internet. After some internal discussion and listening to our users, we decided to launch the site on an album basis because the album's still king, albeit a king of dubious health. Fortunately, it's easy to chance a website, and we're prepared to roll with the way music evolves.

We've though about letting users review singles, live shows, rough cuts, remixes, etc. Its doable, so maybe down the line. Right now it makes the most sense for Musebin to distill pre-existing content types. The Pitchforks and Rolling Stones of the world mostly review albums. We want to take those album review and make them bite sized.

I've never been interested in or had a need for music reviews. Might be because I like instrumental progressive/fusion which isn't that popular. Or maybe it's because music is about listening for yourself and seeing whether you like it or not, being fairly hard to describe in words. But for those that like to 'follow the herd' album reviews might be useful :)
