Artists House Music blog: Coin a Phrase: The "Downsell"

I skimmed this earlier and thought it was good - on a second, more thorough read, I think it's excellent.

With bands that I'm already a fan of, I will rarely buy the cheapest package offered - with bands I'm not 100% sure of (maybe I've only heard a few songs), seeing the other packages not only makes it seem like a great deal, but also:
    - offers greater insight into the band's personality / humanizes them for me
    - makes them appear more professional / successful ("if they already have fans who want to purchase these larger ticket items, they must be pretty good")
    - and, in the case of Mr Freese, the higher end packages are just entertaining / fun to read - and making me laugh / smile automatically makes me more open to giving up some cash.

    Great advice - Thanks.

I definetely would be more likely to spend more money on a band that I love. On the other hand, if a lesser known band offered a good deal I think that I would spend a little to get to know them better.
