They reflect real needs (i.e. a network of support, tools/tech, money). However, as an electronic artist, I think that number 2 has been my worst enemy. Not only have I OVER-estimated the elasticity and permanence of social connections reliant upon wires and the internets, I have also UNDER-estimated the importance of being able to make music whether or not the computer boots up, or the click track is in sync. This is an especially prevalent theme in Nashville, TN.

Re: 5 Mistakes That Will Kick Your Butt As An Entrepreneur

I definitely agree - I interpret the list more as things that will make getting something off the ground difficult, not necessarily impossible. As in most things, having the true passion for the project is the 'sine qua non' - without it, it's impossible

Re: 5 Mistakes That Will Kick Your Butt As An Entrepreneur

This is an outstanding post Andrew! But I must say that when I decided to get into the music business I had NO, NADA, ZIPPO contacts or knowledge about the music business. What I did have was passion for music...a passion I still have. Passion will not cure all the other butt-kicking mistakes one can make in any venture, but passion can sustain the energy necessary to invent, reinvent, assess and reassess all the steps along the way.

Re: 5 Mistakes That Will Kick Your Butt As An Entrepreneur

I get stuck in the promotion and marketing.
